Good photography is that which captures your attention in an instant and then demands you know more about the image, the people and the issue.
It is a difficult balance to achieve: to capture audience’s attention without relying on some level of sensationalism. Surprising juxtapositions are a non-sensational way to go about drawing people in. George Voulgaropoulos achieves a quiet and intriguing juxtaposition with his image of a group of shoeless, seated Australian police officers at a community training day at a mosque in Sydney. The blog which he is journaling his ongoing project has many respectful and narrative rich photographs.
